Sacramento, California

The capital of California is a gold mine of history—literally. Gold was first discovered in 1848, thirty miles east of Sacramento, making the early days rather lively as the town hosted miners who had hit it big. They were a boisterous bunch, spending their loot on gambling and dance halls. Today, Sacramento is still a hub of activity, shipping and processing fruits, vegetables, rice, wheat and dairy goods from Central Valley. It still maintains some of that old west vibe with its vintage buildings on the riverfront—home to over 100 restaurants. Fine restaurants can also be found sprinkling the rest of the city, offering American, Italian, Mexican, French and California cuisine.

Potato Flake Cookies

They spread out A LOT, crisp easily, and have an odd texture. Wouldn't make again, but thanks for the creative recipe.

Awesome Roast Beef

Reviewed on Nov. 13, 2008 by melissa
I have attempted pot roast many times and actually gave up until I cam across this recipe! Everyone loved it and I will for sure make it again. The only thing I did different was I didn't use the cream of mushroom soup, just because I didn't have any. I added a can of the beef broth and 2 packets of the onion soup mix. I also added potatoes and carrots on the bottom. Next time I will try it with the soup.

Michelle's Soft Sugar Cookies

Reviewed on Nov. 12, 2008 by Yvonne131957
This is my second making of this recipe. I wanted to make it twice before I reviewed/rated it. The first time, once completely mixed together, it was a VERY moist batter, resembling a cake batter in thickness and it was not easy to form into logs, wrap in wax paper and chill overnight. But I got it done. The actually chilled it for 2 nights. I rolled it between waxed paper to 1/4" thick and baked for 7 mins. These cookies are GREAT!! I make some plain for coffee and some I sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon like Snickerdoodles. Everyone loved them! Make sure and flour your cookie cutter and also do not roll too thin and do not overbake! It really is a 5 Star but rated it 4 Star because it is a bit difficult to work with :) This is now my families Sugar Cookie Recipe! Thanks~ Yvonne
