Northeastern USA

The Northeastern United States includes New England and the Middle Atlantic States. Though made up of more states than any other region of the United States, the Northeast is the smallest region. Historically, the Northeast has been America’s melting pot. Through the years, the Northeast has remained a landing point for immigrants. Cities along the Atlantic have become rich cultural stews into which new arrivals add their food traditions. Irish immigrants gave us New England boiled dinner; German immigrants, Dutch oven stews; and Italian-Americans have created a hybrid cuisine that has spread throughout the country. More recently, the culinary influences have shifted as immigration becomes increasingly Asian, African, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean, but the invaluable contributions to the American pantry continue on as ever.

About me:
My ds has been gluten-free for 6 years, so cooking has taken on new meaning for me...sustenance and nutrition. Ds#2 and dd also have low milk tolerance. So the trick has been to find recipes that everybody enjoys, inside those parameters. It has been a challenge and I have made a bunch of "flops" as my kids will say, but the last few years it's gotten really good! We are always trying new things and perfecting what we've got going, so that J's meals can be as "normal" as everyone else's are...with tremendous success!

Greek Style Garlic Chicken Breast

Reviewed on Oct. 14, 2008 by chef tara
This was horribly bland for us. I have since found other Greek chicken recipes on this site I will try. We ended up having to use dipping sauce for the chicken, which didn't fit in with my Greek theme at all. This has so many great reviews however, that I guess it just wasn't our cup of tea!

Greek Style Potatoes

Reviewed on Oct. 14, 2008 by chef tara
These were pretty good, but not EXACTLY what I was hoping for. I would cut the oil in half; if you'd believe, it was overpowering. I'd add more lemon and maybe some oregano. I did cook for 2 hours because I had the time, but I'm sure shortcuts could be made here.
